Southpaw is a large capacity, 5,000 square foot venue located in Park Slope, Brooklyn. We bring you local, national, international artists and dj's spanning all musical genres.

Carved and created out of a 99 Cent Discount store in the middle of Brooklyn, Southpaw opened its doors in June of 2002 and since then has emerged as one of New York City's premiere venues for concerts and special events.

Southpaw was chosen as one of the top 5 venues in all of New York City by TIME OUT NY. Our famous jukebox (RIP) was also called "jaw-dropping" in Time Out NY's Music Issue.

Southpaw has hosted acts such as Cat Power, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, TV On The Radio, Sam Prekop, Supergrass, Mogwai, Prefuse 73, Clinic, Ted Leo, Radio 4, Sahara Hotnights, The Chameleons, Squarepusher, Unicorns, KRS-One, and a host of others.

FOR ARTISTS COMING TO PLAY AT SOUTHPAW
We are a 350-500 capacity room in Park Slope brooklyn. We have our main event space plus an additional lounge downstairs, both are fully wired for sound and video. The main space has a 10,000 watt tri-amped FOH rig with a 5 mix bi-amped monitor rig on stage including a tri-amped drum fill with sub. We have 30 lines running from the stage to an Allen & Heath 4000 32 channel console in the mix position at the rear of the room. The FOH console is wired for up to 32 track digital recording (charges may apply) including room mics. There are 16+ channels of comp/gates, 6 channels of efx including tape delay, all Foh and monitor channels have 30 band graphic eq's. We have a full compliment of pro mics [2 wireless beta 58's], di's and other stage gear plus a full backline (see below) the stage is approximately 12'x15' with an additional 6'x4' projection at the nose and has a theatrical curtain as well. For lighting we have a 12 channel Leprechaun 2 scene programmable board currently running 22 instruments. Additionally the backstage circuit panel is pre wired for a 3 phase tie-in to run any additional sound or lighting equipment. The stage has a camera that projects the events on stage to the lounge downstairs and the sound is piped in as well. In the main space we have a video projector and a 10' video screen which can project from composit or s-video sources. We have a dvd player and a pc in the booth as video source machines.

Load in is via the stage door which is at street level. We can provide parking for vans with trailers and busses directly in front of or across the street from the venue. There is a grocery store across the street and a laundromat 2 doors down. There is a custom guitar shop and a guitar center both within walking distance from the venue. The neighborhood is teeming with good restaurants and we can recommend lodging if asked. Hospitality varies from night to night so please enquire via e-mail or phone. Last but not least we are awesome.

All artists need to bring is snare, cymbals, guitars, keys and other specific instruments, ie: horns, strings. We have an excellent drum kit with well maintained hardware, guitar, bass and keyboard amps (all in good working order), keyboard stands and everything else you might need. Load in is after 5 pm unless other arrangements have been made. Sound checks proceed from headliner to opener as time allows (the earlier you can arrive the better). We try to check everyone but, if for some reason we can't check your band don't freak out we have done this a million times and we are very good at it. We generally allow each band member 2 guest list spots. For drinks we usually give everyone 2 after 25 or 30 people have paid to get in, otherwise we do 1/2 price or some kind of special.

GENERIC BACKLINE STATEMENT:

DRUMS:
We have a really nice slingerland 4 piece with all the hardware you could ever need. We also have a solid Tama 5 piece and a few other pieces( cow bell, floor tom, tamborine, etc.). We have 6 kick pedals, 3 hi hat stands and 3 stools. Generally I recommend that drummers bring cymbals and snare, but you might want to bring a throne and your pedal if it's greatly different from what we can provide. It's a good idea to bring a hi-hat clutch, we provide them but they have a habit of wandering off.

BASS:
We have an SWR workingmans15 combo that has been rebuilt to better than original specs and an Acoustic head with a 4x10 cab and a 1x15 cab.

GUITAR:
We have a new Gibson GA-20 with reverb and a dubiously okay sounding tremolo [with footswitch], (pretty similar to a Vox AC 15, 2 channels, loud) also, we have an Epiphone Triggerman 60 (solid state 1x12) and 2 Epiphone So Cal 50 watt half stacks with 4x12 eminence cabs.

KEYS:
We have 3 very sturdy keyboard stands and 2 indestructible and stable laptop stands.

DJ:
We have 7 Technics 1200s, 2 CDJ 800s, 1 CDJ 1000, 1 Pioneer 600 mixer, 1Rane 57 mixer and a few other scratch mixers and cueable CD players, as well as 3 JBL EONs and some other goodies like the afore mentioned laptop stands. WE DO NOT PROVIDE NEEDLES, SLIPMATS OR HEADPHONES.

We want you to bring whatever you need to achieve "your sound" and as little else as possible because this is New York City and space everywhere is at a premium, our backstage included.

Aside from all of this, we have a huge, good sounding P.A. with nice people who know what they are doing AND love music to run it. We have all of the cables, mics, D.I. boxes, stands, tape, rope, connections, hookups(wink), booze, smokes, jokes and war stories you could ever need to put on a perfectly respectable rock show, or folk, jazz, hip-hop, country, klezmer, tuvan throat singing, -even gospel. So bring your tools and your talent and play to the back wall no matter how many people are in the room and we will all be happy at the end of the night. And yes, if you have to bring your 200 pound leslie cabinet, alpine horn or singing elephant we will let it slide.

I know that a lot of venues treat the talent as a necessary evil in their efforts to sell $6 Budweisers, and most of them are pretty tight fisted when it comes time to pay up at the end of the night. Please hear this: SOUTHPAW has been designed, built and run by people who love music AND the people who create it. PLEASE arrive with the attitude that you are about to be treated well and kindly by folks who respect the pro's that you are. Music is not a hobby or a job unless you choose to make it so, it is a calling that should be honored by all, including those who use it as a means to live. Show up with this in mind, act accordingly and I will personally guarantee that, barring any freak occurrence beyond my control, you will leave happy and eager to return.
